Lab Spotlight: BECDEN Dental Laboratory

For over three years Becden Dental Laboratory has been recommending SmilePix to their clients. For those of you not familiar with Becden we wanted to take this opportunity to introduce you to this very special Lab!

Becden Dental Laboratory, founded in 1995 by the husband and wife team of Becky and Dennis Vasquez, is quite different than most laboratories. Both founders have extensive experience within the dental office, not just fabricating restorations in a laboratory. Becky worked as a dental assistant, hygienist, office manager and International Practice Management Consultant prior to forming Becden. Her understanding of the critical business systems for success in dentistry is shared through her monthly newsletter articles (sign up at www.becdendental.com), telephone consulting, and periodic educational seminars. Dennis partnered with a dentist for 24 years of his dental technology career and spent many hours at the chair, giving him an excellent understanding of the challenges of wet-fingered dentistry. He also teaches effective temporization techniques to dentists and assistants and leads the highly skilled Technical Support Team at Becden. Their passion for dentistry and obsession with service is shared by all on their team.

Realizing what an advantage our imaging has given their dentists in case presentations, Becden has been offering a "rebate" on SmilePix imaging for certain cases (see below)*. They have been confident about sending dentists to us because of the positive feedback they have gotten on our service from many of their clients.

Mari Reed of SmilePix recently spoke to Becky Vasquez and invited her to tell us a little more about what sets their lab apart. She also asked Becky to share her personal experience with seeing the difference SmilePix can make.

During a recent Over-The-Shoulder seminar, where dentists watch the actual preparation and bonding of two 10-unit Smile Makeovers, I really learned the power of showing a patient the end result using their SmilePix simulation. Curtis, a Becden employee and our patient for the seminar, had never liked his smile and was tentatively excited about having 10 veneers to correct his “fangs” as he called them. I wanted to see how much I could bump up his enthusiasm so I asked Sam from SmilePix to create two simulations for me; one just showing the difference whitening could make and another showing what a Smile Makeover would look like. I received the emailed photos and called Curtis into my office. First I showed him the whitening before and after and received a relatively non-eventful response. Then I showed him the before and after Smile Makeover and he almost went into shock. He said, “WOW, WOW, WOW” and couldn’t take his eyes off of his photographs for several minutes! It was at that moment Curtis realized how his life would be changing. He was so excited he couldn’t even wait to take the photos home to show his wife and had me immediately forward the email to him. Within the next hour he had forwarded them to his wife, his two brothers who live in different parts of the country, his mother, and a good friend. How’s that for a marketing tool? Curtis now has the beautiful smile he saw in the simulation and one of his brothers has already had a Smile Makeover of his own.
